Time Saving Tips

  • Plan meals in advance
  • Create a binder with menus and recipes organized by week, blank shopping lists, and pockets for coupons.
  • Re-use your weekly menus
  • Try creating a theme night link to page on theme nights
  • Shop when stores are least busy – often early in the morning or later at night.
  • Consider using a company that allows you to order on-line and will deliver your groceries.
  • Post your meal plan on the fridge and have your cookbook open to the right recipe.
  • Have the first person home start preparing the meal or setting the table.
  • Involve kids in the preparation.
    • Simple tasks for preschoolers include putting plates on the table, tossing the salad and folding napkins.
    • Older kids can pitch in even more by washing produce, mixing and stirring, chopping, and serving.
  • Use leftovers later in the week or freeze them for future meals.
  • Double a recipe and freeze half for another night.

No time for shopping?
Try on-line shopping and delivery

Prepare as much as possible ahead of time:

  • After grocery shopping take a few extra minutes to wash and cut the fruits and vegetables before putting them away.
  • Try preparing menu items the night before, or on days when you have some extra time.
  • Prewash vegetables for the week and cut up the night before you need them.
  • Cook extra beef, pork, or poultry and for quick use another day
  • Bake items such as oatmeal cookies and carrot cake, and freeze them for a quick dessert.
